Taxi in Hong Kong come in 3 different colours indicating their area of service. Red taxi's operate in most areas of Hong Kong except for Tung Chung Road and the south side of Lantau Island. Green taxi's serve the rural areas of the New Territories.
Blue taxi's operate on Lantau Island. Taxis can easily be hailed by standing next to the street although if you attempt to stop them in a restricted area they will not stop. Some drivers may have some knowledge of the english language, but it will be wise to have your directions written in Chinese so that they can understand where to take you to.
